Most email clients allow you to enable or disable an email address. Begin by disabling the current POP3 email address. If this option is not available, change the email account's password within the email program to a random one. This will prevent a successful connection to the email server, and you will receive a notification, which you can dismiss.
Reconfigure the email address, but this time, use IMAP instead of POP3. We provide guides for setting up email addresses in the most commonly used email programs:
Setting up email for Apple users
Once you’ve added the email address via IMAP, it’s important to recreate the existing folder structure under the new IMAP account. Then, transfer the emails, folder by folder, from the POP3 email account to the IMAP account.
This essentially uploads the messages to our mail server. The process may take some time, occasionally several minutes. The speed depends on your upload speed and the size of the messages, including any attachments.
Helpful tip: Avoid moving more than 200 messages at once, as some email programs might freeze otherwise.
After transferring all your data, including folders like Sent Items and Trash, you can delete the POP3 email account from your email program.
